Three Toothache Remedies

If you have a toothache contact your dentist as soon as you can! If you wait to see a dentist the problem can spread and get much worse. Sometimes pain can occur at times you cannot visit your dentist. Here are a few different things you can try to relieve the pain and discomfort.

 

 

 

1. Cold Compresses

If you toothache including some amount of swelling consider holding an icepack covered in a paper towel or cloth on the area. (20 minutes on, then 20 minutes off) Cold helps numb the area relieving pain. It can also reduce pain and inflammation.

 


 

 

2. Salt Water Rinse

Rinsing you mouth with warm salt water may provide some relief. Add a couple teaspoons of salt to a cup of warm water and swish. It can also help clean out any excess foods and bacteria out of your mouth. Be sure to drink lots of water as well.

 

 

 

3. Tooth Pain Medications

There a few over-the-counter medications you can use to cope with a toothache. It is important you do not hold the medication against your sore tooth, it can burn gum tissue if you're not careful. This is not a long term solution, but can hold you over until your doctors appointment.
